Deciding on Your Site Package
We offer a few different site-packages. Each of them is designed to offer a different business opportunity. If none of these meet your needs, that’s no problem. We can customize a product for you, just let us know what you need and we will send you a quote. We included a little more information on that process at the bottom if you have any questions.
We offer three different packages. They are Business, Content and E-Commerce. We’re going to give you a brief description of each of them here. After that, we’ll discuss a few special cases to think about.
The important thing to remember is that the main difference in all of these packages is what we offer in them. They are all built on WordPress, a leading content management system that powers over 455,000,000 sites on the internet. No, that wasn’t a typo. It’s very powerful and very flexible. We put together functions and designs to meet these objectives but all of the sites have the same skeleton with different skin and approaches, so if you need or want to change strategies at any point, you can do that without a problem. You can add content to a business or e-commerce site, or you can advertise a business on a content or e-commerce site. One minor difference is that we use a platform called WooCommerce to power the shops, but we can easily install WooCommerce on a business or content site to let you sell things. We separate the packages to be able to bundle things together that work for your business, that’s it. Mixing and matching are easy.
Our Business Sites are designed to support brick and mortar and online businesses or other organizations that are trying to put information about them on the internet. These are businesses like attorneys, doctors, contractors, accountants, and other professionals who wouldn’t usually need to sell things on-line.
While we call it a “Business” package, it doesn’t have to be for a business. These are great packages for churches, non-profits, clubs, associations, or other organizations that aren’t businesses. It’s the same basic concepts as for a service-based or local business that doesn’t actually do business on their website but try to use their website to get attention. One thing that the Business Packages don’t offer that you might need would be a way to take donations. We can add that. Depending on your needs, there may be a charge for that but most of the time, honestly, that wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
The larger packages also come with blog posts. One of the ways that you can market your site, which happens naturally, is to include content related to what you do or who you are. That way, when someone searches on Google or another search engine, they are more likely to find you. We will provide you with the listed number of articles which are about 500-1000 words and focused on keywords (what someone would use to search for) in your subject area. While these articles are all unique for you, they aren’t written by you and won’t have your voice. We do our best, but each of us has our own voice and message. They are designed to get you started on building out website content. You can either use them as we provide them or use them as a starting point of something to edit and make your own. They are yours to use as you see fit.
Our Content Packages are aimed at someone looking to build out a blog, affiliate marketing, AdWords, or similar sites. These are usually sites that build a lot of content over time in a particular subject area. All of the packages come with some level of content. These articles are designed to get you started on your site organization and building out content.
In the Premium package, we will also help you get started on an email strategy. These sites are all focused on getting eyeballs on your content. You can either use that to sell for someone else (affiliate marketing or using advertising) or to sell something of your own, maybe a book or course or something. Besides your content being found on the internet using a Search Engine or paid advertising, another way is to try to get your readers to sign up to get updated content. We set you up to do that but integrating with an email provider like, for example, ConvertKit, so that when someone fills out a form your email provider will send them automated emails. We will also help you design and build a lead magnet for your audience to entice them to sign up for your email list. These are giveaways and often things like checklists, cheat sheets, etc that are useful to your reader. A good email list an excellent and powerful tool for your site.
More and more, people are looking to sell things online. These shops come in all shapes and sizes and if you want one of your own, we have you covered. Our E-Commerce Packages have WooCommerce installed. WooCommerce is a flexible, affordable, and powerful on-line shop addition to WordPress and is used by over 3,000,000 shops around the world. Through a series of plug-ins and other customizations, it can accept pretty much all forms of payment, sell almost anything (no illicit goods please), and support almost any kind of shop, subscription, or course.
We will get you started being able to take payments (you will need to sign up for, and pay for, a credit card processor if you want to go that route but we will make sure you are integrated with your payment processor and can accept the payments you’d like.
On the larger packages, we will also integrate with an email marketing provider (not included) so that you can automate email sequences to your customers and prospective customers. On the largest package, we go one step further and we will work with you to build something called an abandoned cart sequence. The way this works is that if someone has started checking out and we were able to get their email address, this automates a sequence of emails to try to get them back. Some stats show that the average cart is abandoned over 75% of the time. While that’s a frustrating number, the fact that they put the item in their cart means that they were seriously considering buying. That’s a great lead for a future sale.
We will also install a Facebook Pixel on your site for Facebook advertising. These track user interactions on your site. They’re also why when you were shopping for those nice red shoes for your wife or golf clubs for your husband (or the other way around) that you see ads for those things for the next two weeks. These can help you with some really powerful tools for marketing.
Continuing the value in our largest package, we will also customize the email templates for your brands and colors. We can do more customization, but that may require a paid plug-in (not included).
We periodically get asked about Shopify or BigCommerce or other platforms. The answer is that we can probably do the project. Without knowing what you want to do, it’s hard to give a price. Those platforms do some things great and other things not as well. Shopify also tends to up-sell a lot of plug-ins for functionality. Let us know what you need and we’ll look at it and give you a quote.
All of our sites come with a few extras, so we’ll just cover them all at once. We try to provide a lot of value for your fixed price. We also want you to be able pay one price to get going. We don’t discount if you decide you don’t want something that’s included in a package. At the same time, we try not to nickel and dime in either direction. We also try to make fair trades based on the work involved. So, for example, if you don’t want an included blog post but want another page of content, that’s no problem. If you don’t want the email, we’ll connect your domain to the email you’re paying for. We try to be fair. Some larger changes may cost extra, but we always let you know in advance.
Free Domain Name
We will register your domain and pay for it for the first year. Of course, you get to pick it, but we’ll get you set-up with a registrar account. After the first year, though you have to cover it. It’s usually $10-15.
This helps to protect your website. It gives you the padlock in your browser window and encrypts all the data between your computer and where your website lives. It used to be that you only really needed these if you were taking payments or getting user information but now, it’s a must-have for most sites. In fact, recently, Google started penalizing sites for not having these. We provide and set-up your SSL Certificate for the first year. You’ll need to renew it after that. It’s usually around $15-30, depending on where you get it and which one you get.
We will provide you up to five email addresses (just ask if you need more) with your domain. If you want to use Google’s business email or Microsoft’s, we will connect your domain to them. We don’t provide email through them but we’ll make sure you’re all connected.
With Google Analytics installed, Google can give you all types of data about your site. They’ll tell you how many people visited it, how they got there, what they looked at, any search terms that led them there. It’s fantastic data for planning your marketing and content strategies. We’ll get your site hooked up and connected to your account (no worries if you don’t have an account, we’ll show you how to sign up, it’s easy.)
Social Media Links
If you have any social media accounts, we’ll make sure that those are linked to your account so that your audience and customers can connect to you in both places. We’ll also show you how to add your site to your social media profiles.
All of our sites are designed and built with your mobile users in mind. We test the pages to make sure that they look good and work on mobile devices. Mobile is an important part of any web strategy these days.
Hosting and After Go-Live
Another thing that our packages all include is a period of hosting. Hosting is something you need with any website. It’s a fancy term for a home for your website. Your website lives on a specially configured computer that’s open to the internet. With any website, you’ll have to pay for this service. We include several months. The exact length depending on the package, but we also include something that most don’t.
With each package, we include one of two types of hosting. Normally, when you pay for hosting, you have to do all the work on your site. One of the downsides of WordPress’s popularity is that it’s a target for hackers. With all the possible configurations, this can open up security holes. When developers find these holes, they fix their programs. You then have to install those updates, which come out pretty regularly. Once in a while, these updates will break something. That needs to get fixed if they do. Thankfully, it doesn’t happen very often but the developers can’t test every possible iteration of website out there. We do this for you for this early period. We want you to be able to focus on your business and so we keep things up to date and secure during this time. If there’s a problem, we fix it. We also keep your site backed up so that if there’s a problem, we can recover it. We call this our Managed Hosting plan.
With some packages, we include even more. For these, we’ll do everything above and then some more. For these packages, we will make up to five changes to your site on your behalf each month. So if you need to post a blog post, you write it and we’ll post it for you. If you want a new product, we’ll do that too. Sorry, but you still have to write it. We’ll make sure it’s properly formatted and up on the site so that you can focus on your business and not how to format paragraphs on a website. These changes include a number of options. Most of the time, with this plan, you probably won’t even have to log in to the administrative part of your website. We call this our Managed Content Hosting plan.
Once your free period is done you can either pay to continue that service, switch to our more traditional plan (where you do everything), or switch hosting plans to someone else. We hate to see you go, but we will move your site for you one time after so that you don’t need to worry about that. We can even direct you to a different host if you need us to. As much as we want your business, we want you happy more.
As with anything, there can be some extra costs. We try to design things so that this doesn’t happen but we can’t plan for every possibility. WordPress can do an amazing number of things. Some of these things require something called premium plug-ins. These are paid (there are a lot of free options too, or freemium where you get some functions for free and others are paid.) We’ll always try to help you find the best solution for you, but developers need to feed their families too and there are some really well-built solutions out there. You are responsible for these costs. We don’t charge an upcharge. We just pass this cost through to you or we’ll send you to where you can pay without us as a middleman.
For some, there may be a cost for us to implement them. We’ll always let you know in advance and we work really hard to be fair. This cost is determined by the amount of time and effort we have to put in to implement it, including things like testing.
These packages are all great, but sometimes they just don’t work for what you want. That’s no problem. We’ve had requests for being able to see digital products on blogs, setting up marketplaces, forums/message boards, online courses, and all sorts of cool ideas. They are all possibilities. Let us know what you need and we’ll give you a quote and options.
We do not use our packages as a way to entice you and then hit you with a huge customization fee. We start first with what you’re looking to accomplish. We need to know what you want to be able to do. It can also help to know where you’re headed so that you don’t have to spend a bunch of money later on to change things, unless that makes sense (if you’re bootstrapping your project, that may be a great way to go.)
We then look at our package that’s the closest to what you want and the cost to purchase any premium plug-ins to accomplish what you need. We may even offer you a few options. Plug-ins are often an annual fee, but they sometimes offer a lifetime license. Depending on your budget, we may show you both. The work is the same to us, it’s a question of if you want to pay less now or more later.
From there, we look at the work we need to do over what’s in the basic package. Often there are trade-offs, so if, for example, you want a small shop on a Premium Business Package but you don’t care about the blog articles, we likely will call it even because the work isn’t much different for us. We work very hard to be fair to you and to us.
What We Need From You
Of course, once you’ve signed up, we have things for you to do (it is your business.) It helps us a lot to understand your brand, your marketing plan, your business needs and anything you can tell us. We’ll be looking to you to provide descriptions of your services, products or anything else and any pictures.
Mostly, we need you to test and provide as much feedback as you can. This is your site. If you don’t like the look of something, please tell us. Make sure it’s working the way you want. Make sure your brand looks right. This all represents you and we want you happy with it. The sooner you can tell us, the sooner we can finish. Our timeline will largely be driven by how quickly you can review and test things and let us know.
We look forward to working with you. Let us know what kind of site you need.
